Corris yn achub Cewri!

Ar yr 8fed o Fehefin, cyrhaeddodd cwmni Visiom Mechanics o Gaeredin i Fiosffer Dyfi er mwyn gweithio ar brosiect Cewri yn y Coed. Syniad y prosiect yw bod cerfluniau anarferol yn gwneud i bobl feddwl am yr hyn sy’n gwneud yr ardal yma, sydd wedi ei gydnabod gan UNESCO fel ardal Biosffer, mor arbennig. Bydd y prosiect yn cysylltu Biosffer Dyfi efo Biosffer arall y Deyrnas Gyfunol, yng Ngogledd Dyfnaint, ac efo ardal Dumfries a Galloway yn yr Alban sydd ar fin cael ei ddynodi yn Biosffer.
Cyrhaeddodd Symon a Kym gyda thri phen anferthol wedi eu gwneud o bren helyg, gan fwriadu treulio deuddydd yn plannu planhigion lleol ynddynt. Roedd y planhigion yn barod, a’r cewri yn eu disgwyl ym Machynlleth brynhawn Gwener, ond wrth i’r glaw drymhau a’r gwynt ddechrau hyrddio, death yn amlwg na fyddai’n bosib gwneud y gwaith plannu, a phenderfynwyd gwneud y gwaith yn Ffwrnais y diwrnod canlynol. Gadawyd y planhigion yno, ac aeth Symon a Kym i aros gyda Märit Olsson yng Nghorris Uchaf.
Byddech chi’n cofio y bu llifogydd difrifol yn Aberystwyth, Talybonta Machynlleth ar fore’r 9fed o Fehefin. Wrth i Kym a Symon ddeffro yng Nghorris, roedd y prosiect yn dechrau edrych yn fethiant – roedd y ffyrdd i Fachynlleth wedi eu cau, a’r planhigion, os oeddent yno o gwbl, yr ochr arall i’r dŵr. Ac roedd hi’n dal i fwrw glaw!
Ond, yn wyneb y problemau hyn, camodd pobl Corris Uchaf i’r adwy. Cyn iddi droi’n 10 y bore, roedd haid o wirfoddolwyr wedi dod i’r fei, a daethpwyd o hyd i ddigon o le i osod y Cewri. Casglwyd planhigion brodorol o erddi a pherthi’r pentref, ac aethpwyd ati i’w plannu yn y Cewri. Er bod pawb a phopeth yn wlyb at eu croen, roedd Corris Uchaf yn falch o’r tri Chawr oedd yn sefyll ar drothwy’r pentref. Roedd Symon a Kym yn gallu dechau are eu taith hir yn ôl i’r Alban, yn falch o wybod bod y prosiect yn ôl ar ei draed.

Hoffai tîm y Biosffer diolch yn fawr i bawb oedd wnaeth achub y dydd!

Erbyn dydd Sadwrn, Mehefin 16eg, gobeithiwn bydd y Cewri wedi eu gosod yn y coed i bawb eu gweld. Bydd un ymhob un o’r tair sir sy’n rhan o’r Biosffer: yng Ngwynedd, mae bwriad gosod Cawr yn Nhan y Coed, Pantperthog, ychydig i lawr y lôn o Gorris; bydd y ddau gawr arall yn symyd i’r Plas, Machynlleth a maes parcio Ffwrnais ger Eglwysfach. Mae croeso i bobl dod yn rhan o’r prosiect – mae rhagor o wybodaeth ar gael o wefan giantsintheforest.com lle all bobl rhannu eu lluniau a’u syniadau, neu trwy gysylltu â thim y Biosffer ar 01654 703965.

GIANTS IN CORRIS UCHAF

On the 8th of June the Dyfi Biosphere welcomed the Edinburgh based Vision Mechanics to lead the project Giants in the Forest. The project is the last stage to link UK’s three Biosphere areas in North Devon, Dumfries & Galloway and the Dyfi Valley.
Symon and Kim arrived with three beautiful willow Giants heads with two days to prepare the three sites and plant the heads with local plants. Plants were ready, heads in place to be planted in Machynlleth during Friday afternoon and then the morning drizzle became heavy rain and the slight wind became a gale. The planting was abandoned and it was rescheduled to take place Saturday morning at the RSPB centre in Ynyshir. Plants were left in place ready for the morning while Symon and Kim went to stay with Märit Olsson in Corris Uchaf.
I am sure we all remember that night, flooding in Aberystwyth, Talybont and Machynlleth as well as problems in the village. Symon and Kim woke up to what looked like a failed project. The roads to Machynlleth were closed and the plants were on the other side, if they had not gone in the flood. And the rain was still falling.
But they had not counted on the community spirit in Corris Uchaf. Before 10 o’clock a small army of helpers turned up and a space found for the giants heads. Local plants were found in the hedge rows and gardens around the village and planting began. It might have been wet and soggy but very soon Corris Uchaf had three Giants, not in the forest but standing proudly welcoming everyone into the village. Symon and Kim could start their long drive back to Edinburgh knowing that the project was on track again.

The Biosphere team would like to thank all who helped save the day!
The heads will be hanged at a later date, one in each of the Biosphere counties; Ceredigion, Gwynedd and Powys.
